Established in 1994, Native American owned Bear Mountain Mercantile is 3,000 square feet of Montana style located on Central Avenue, downtown Whitefish. Walk through the door and you'll know you're in Montana, with the look and feel of mountain cabins, ski slopes, fly fishing streams, clear lakes, wildlife, spirited horses and local hospitality. If you want to make a room or living area take you back to this "last best place", we can help... with items which range from a "few bucks" to fine furnishings, antiques, etc. We specialize in friendly "family-style" service (unless your family experience is dysfunctional) and we love to help you find the perfect gift, souvenir, or home accent. Relax... enjoy the wildlife rather than the wild lives many of you lead. Let nature's cycles set your pace... we have the reminders. Whitefish is a town of about 7,000 hearty souls whose town is snuggled up to Big Mountain ski area (now called Whitefish Mountain Resort) and a stone’s throw from Glacier National Park. The views are breathtaking and the air is conducive to breath-taking. Our 15 year old store is family run featuring home accents, gifts and furnishings befitting this area that we love. We can reasonably predict that if you like fly fishing, skiing, hiking, cabins, horses, mountains, elk, bears, and moose, you’ll enjoy Bear Mountain. You’ll chuckle at the squeaky wood floors, handwritten sales slips and the feeling of having “retro’d” back to the late 1940’s. If you browse, decorate or gift give in any of these Montana themes, we can usually help. Our items range from furniture, framed art prints, lighting, tabletop flatware, bedding, cozy throws, fireplace equipment, etc… to fun, whimsical tee shirts, books, jewelry, robes, hardware (towel rods, drawer pulls, switch plate covers, etc.) We’ve loaded some representative items into this website just to whet your appetite.
